7th House (Yuvati Bhava)

कलत्र भाव

What does the 7th house represent in Vedic astrology?

The 7th house, Yuvati or Kalatra Bhava, represents marriage, the spouse, business partnership and any one-to-one dealing. It is a kendra house directly opposite the ascendant, and it is the primary house in any marriage or compatibility reading, alongside Venus and the Navamsa chart.

Never read alone

A marriage reading that looks only at the 7th house is incomplete. Three things are weighed together: the 7th house and its lord, the karaka (Venus in a man's chart, Jupiter in a woman's), and the Navamsa chart, which in Parashari astrology is the divisional chart specifically for marriage and for the deeper strength of every planet.

The 7th is also a kendra and a maraka — a technical classification used in longevity calculation, not a warning. And it covers business partnership and open opposition as much as it covers marriage: any relationship conducted face to face.

Mangal dosha and the 7th

Mangal dosha is defined the way it is because Mars aspects the 4th, 7th and 8th from itself. From the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th and 12th houses Mars reaches the 7th house or the houses that support it. The dosha is checked from the ascendant, the Moon and Venus, and it carries a long list of classical cancellations that must be applied before any conclusion.

Common questions

When will I get married according to my kundli?
Marriage timing is read from the dasha and antardasha of the planets connected to the 7th house and Venus, cross-checked against Jupiter's and Saturn's transits over the 7th house and the natal Moon. It produces likely windows, not dates — and any astrologer who gives you a specific date is overstating what the method can do.
Which house is for love and which for marriage?
The 5th house is romance and attraction; the 7th is marriage and formal partnership. A connection between the two is what a love marriage looks like in a chart.
