What is my current Vimshottari mahadasha and antardasha?
The Vimshottari dasha system divides your life into planetary periods (mahadashas) and sub-periods (antardashas) totalling a 120-year cycle, starting from your Moon's nakshatra at birth. This calculator shows which mahadasha and antardasha you are running right now, and when they change.
How dasha timing is actually used
A mahadasha is the ruling planet's multi-year period; within it, every planet also gets a shorter antardasha turn. A period is read together with what that planet actually holds and influences in your specific chart — the same Saturn mahadasha reads very differently for two different charts, which is why a dasha result on its own is a starting point, not the whole story.
Common questions
- Why does my dasha start from the Moon's nakshatra?
- Vimshottari dasha calculates how much of your birth nakshatra's ruling period had already elapsed at birth, and starts your timeline's balance from there — which is why an accurate birth time matters.
- How long is a full dasha cycle?
- The full Vimshottari cycle runs 120 years across all nine planetary periods, though few people live through the entire sequence.
- What's the difference between mahadasha and antardasha?
- Mahadasha is the multi-year main period ruled by one planet; antardasha is a shorter sub-period within it, where a second planet's influence blends with the first.
