Ashtakavarga Calculator (Sarvashtakavarga bindus)

What are my Sarvashtakavarga bindus and what do they mean?

This computes your Sarvashtakavarga: one score per house, from 0 to 56, summed from the contributions of the seven planets and the ascendant. Every chart totals 337 across twelve houses, so an average house carries about 28. Above roughly 30 reads as well supported and below roughly 25 as a house that gives its results with more effort.

What the number counts

Each of the seven planets casts a benefic point — a bindu — onto certain houses, counted from its own position and from the ascendant, following a fixed classical table. Add every planet's contribution to a house and you get that house's Sarvashtakavarga score. Nothing in that step is interpretive, which is both the method's strength and its limit: the number tells you how many contributions landed, not what will happen.

Why the total is always 337, and what follows

Because the contribution tables are fixed, every chart distributes exactly the same 337 bindus across twelve houses. That single fact decides how the scores can honestly be used. They are a distribution, not a quantity of fortune: a chart cannot score highly everywhere, and a strong house always implies a weaker one somewhere else.

It also means comparing your bindus with someone else's measures nothing at all — you both have the same 337 to spend. Anyone reading your total as a verdict on how good your chart is, relative to another person's, is using a number that cannot answer that question.

Where the scores genuinely help: transits

The most practical use is judging a transit. A slow planet crossing a house where it has many of its own bindus is read as finding support there; the same planet crossing a house where it has few as meeting friction. That is why Ashtakavarga appears in Sade Sati and Saturn transit readings — the phase running through a well-supported house is a different period from the same phase through a poorly supported one.

For that question you want the planet's own Bhinnashtakavarga rather than the house total, which this calculator also computes.

Common questions

What is a good Sarvashtakavarga score?
Above about 30 bindus for a house reads as well supported and below about 25 as needing effort, against an average of 28. The figures only mean anything within one chart.
Why does my chart total 337?
Because the classical contribution tables are fixed. Every chart distributes the same 337 bindus across twelve houses, which is why the reading is always relative.
Can I compare my bindus with someone else's?
No. Both charts total 337, so a comparison between people measures nothing. The scores are for ranking the houses inside one chart.
What is the difference between SAV and BAV?
Bhinnashtakavarga is one chart per planet, 0 to 8 bindus per house. Sarvashtakavarga is those seven added together, 0 to 56. One is the total of the other, not an alternative method.
Is this the same row my free kundli shows?
Yes — the same Sarvashtakavarga, from the same engine function our paid reports use. This page computes it on its own and explains what the numbers are.
Does Ashtakavarga need an exact birth time?
It is built from house positions, so it moves with the ascendant. At ±15 minutes the ascendant sign changed in 14% of our 143 test charts; treat an approximate time accordingly.
