VedikPatrika Blog

Articles on Vedic astrology, plus the reference material behind every report VedikPatrika produces — the classical facts stated plainly, the disagreements between traditions acknowledged rather than smoothed over, and the cancellation rules that most dosha pages quietly omit.

One thing stated up front. The positions in a chart are astronomy and are exactly as accurate as the ephemeris allows. What is drawn from those positions is interpretation within a traditional system — a long-standing body of practice with its own internal logic, but not an empirically established science. Nothing here is medical, legal or financial advice.

What is Vedic astrology?

Vedic astrology, or Jyotisha, is the Indian system of reading a birth chart drawn from the sidereal positions of nine grahas across twelve houses and twenty-seven nakshatras. It differs from Western astrology in three main ways: it uses the sidereal zodiac rather than the tropical one, it treats the Moon rather than the Sun as the primary reference, and it has a timing system — Vimshottari dasha — that Western practice has no direct equivalent of.
