Short answer: no year is lucky or unlucky for a baby in Vedic astrology. Every child born in 2026 or 2027 gets a unique chart decided by the exact minute and place of birth. What astrology can add is timing: Jupiter, the karaka (significator) of children, is exalted in Karka from June to October 2026 and again from January to June 2027, which many families see as a favourable backdrop.
Why the year itself does not decide much
Millions of babies are born in any year. The slow planets set the general "weather", but what makes a chart is the lagna, which changes about every two hours, and the Moon's nakshatra, which changes about once a day. Two babies born on the same day can have very different charts.
What the 2026–27 transits mean for families
- Jupiter is the significator of children. Its exaltation in Karka (2 June to 31 October 2026, and 25 January to 25 June 2027) is classically considered auspicious.
- Saturn in Meena through mid-2027 asks for patience and planning rather than haste.
- Rahu and Ketu move into Makara and Karka on 5 December 2026.
For parents, the more useful question is their own charts: the 5th house, its lord and Jupiter show the timing of children (santan) in Vedic astrology. See the 5th bhava and Guru.
If the delivery date can be planned
When a doctor gives a medically safe window for a planned delivery, families often choose the most favourable moment inside it. That is what a birth muhurat does: it scores each possible time for lagna strength, nakshatra, tithi and other factors. Use the free baby birth muhurat calculator — it only searches within the range your doctor has approved and never suggests changing it.
What astrology should never do here
The doctor's advice always comes first. Astrology must not be used to delay medical care, choose a risky date, or decide anything about conception or pregnancy health. A good muhurat is a choice among safe options, nothing more.
After the birth
Once your baby is born, the chart is fixed. A free kundli shows the lagna, rashi and nakshatra, and the nakshatra gives the traditional first syllable for the name. For naming help, see the baby name report.
