Dharma-Karmadhipati Yoga: the 9th and 10th lords together

धर्म-कर्माधिपति योग

What is Dharma-Karmadhipati yoga and why is it called the strongest Raj yoga?

Dharma-Karmadhipati yoga forms when the lord of the 9th house and the lord of the 10th are conjunct or in a sign exchange. It is a Raj yoga — the 9th is a trikona and the 10th a kendra — but a far narrower one: our engine finds it in about 17% of charts against 82.5% for a general Raj yoga.

Why this one is worth naming separately

Every Dharma-Karmadhipati yoga is also a Raj yoga, so a reading could simply call it that. The reason to name it separately is that it discriminates. A general Raj yoga is present in four charts out of five; this one in roughly one in six. A finding that is true of 17% of people tells you something; one that is true of 82% mostly tells you that the rule is broad.

The classical tradition independently rates it highest among the raja yogas, which is a rare case of the texts and the arithmetic agreeing.

What the two houses mean together

The 9th is fortune, guidance, belief and the father. The 10th is work, profession and standing. When their rulers are joined, the classical reading is of work that carries conviction and fortune that arrives through it — a career that is also a direction, rather than merely a job.

As with every yoga, timing comes from the dasha. The pattern exists in the chart from birth; the period that activates it does not.

Common questions

Is Dharma-Karmadhipati yoga the same as Raj yoga?
It is a specific case of one. The 9th is a trikona and the 10th a kendra, so the general definition covers it — but it is much less common and classically rated the strongest.
How rare is it?
In our measurement over our verification charts it occurs in roughly 17% of them — about one chart in six.
Does it need an exact birth time?
Yes. House lordship is decided by the ascendant, which changes sign roughly every two hours, so which planets rule the 9th and 10th can change with the birth time.
