Birth time rectification: what it is, and what it can honestly claim
जन्म समय शोधन
What is birth time rectification and does it work?
Rectification is working backwards from known life events to narrow an uncertain birth time. It is a legitimate technique with a real limit: the events it uses are read through the same chart it is trying to fix, so a confident rectification to the minute is claiming more precision than the method supports.
How it is done
The astrologer takes events whose dates you are sure of — a marriage, a job change, a bereavement, a move — and tests candidate birth times to see which produces a chart where those events fall under plausible dasha and transit combinations. The time that fits best is adopted.
The technique is old and the reasoning is sound in principle. If the ascendant moves one sign every two hours, and a particular ascendant makes five known events line up while its neighbour makes none, that is real evidence.
The limit, stated plainly
The evidence is interpretive. Whether an event 'fits' a dasha is a judgement made by the person doing the fitting, using the same chart they are trying to correct. Two careful astrologers can rectify the same life to different times, and both can show their work.
What that means in practice: rectification can often narrow a four-hour window to one ascendant sign, and that is genuinely useful. A rectification that produces a birth time to the minute, and then builds a D60 reading on it, has passed from technique into assertion.
Why we do not offer it
We would have to charge for a judgement we could not show you the working of, and the output would look exactly as precise as a real birth time while being something else entirely. Every report we write states the birth-time accuracy on its face; a rectified time would quietly defeat that.
If you want it done, have it done — by a person, in conversation, where you can ask what each event was taken to indicate. Then treat the result as a well-argued estimate rather than as a fact about the day you were born.
Common questions
- Can rectification find my exact birth time?
- It can usually narrow the window, often to one ascendant sign. A result stated to the minute is claiming a precision the method cannot deliver, because the evidence is interpreted through the chart being corrected.
- Do you offer birth time rectification?
- No. It requires a judgement we could not show you the working of, and the result would look as precise as a recorded time while being an estimate. We would rather flag the uncertainty than hide it.
- Is a rectified chart good enough for a Navamsa reading?
- Treat it with care. The Navamsa ascendant changed in 100% of our test charts at ±15 minutes, so a Navamsa built on a rectified time inherits all the uncertainty of the rectification.
